Political science is the study of government, political behaviour and political practices at the local, state, national, and international levels. It studies how political power is distributed, how different governments operate and interact with each other and how rules are designed and implemented. Students with a Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Political Sciences have a wide range of career choices in public, private, or non-profit private sectors. Also they can build a career in education, law, business, politics, government, civil service or journalism.
Students can pursue undergraduate, masters or doctoral degree in political science. An undergraduate degree in political science usually covers the following subjects.
First Year Modules
During the first year subjects focus on building up the basic knowledge and skills needed to study politics.Compulsory core modules may include Classical Political Thought, Understanding Politics, Research Skills and literacy: Philosophy and Method in Social Sciences, Politics as a Vocation.
Optional module may include Introduction to Political Economy, Introduction to International Relations Theory, Twentieth Century Russian Politics, and Introduction to the European Union: History, Politics and Institutions, Social Worlds and the Sociological Imagination, Sociology of the Self and Everyday Life
Second Year Modules
Compulsory core module may include Analysing Political Worlds, Modern Political Thought, Optional modules Comparative European Politics, Data Analysis and Research Design, Europeanization, International Political Economy, Institutions, Politics and Policies of the European Union, The International Politics of East Asia, International Security, Public Choice Theory.
Third Year Modules
In the third along with students will undertake an independent research project (a dissertation) on a topic of their choice.
Compulsory core modules may include Contemporary Political Theory.
Optional modules Controversies in Contemporary Democracies, Critical Approaches to Security, Democracy and Democratisation in Contemporary Europe, Gender in World Politics, Global Capitalism and Migration, Global Governance, Left Parties and Protest Movements etc.
